Do you have additional storage in the building?

We do offer additional storage in the building, starting at $50/month. Contact the Management Office for additional details.

Do you have a guest policy?

Your guest must have a permanent address some place else. Additionally, your guest must adhere to the building Rules & Regulations that you, as a resident, must sign with your lease paperwork.

Can I have a satellite dish?

We do not allow satellite dishes in the common areas of the premises.

What’s your pet policy?

Cats & dogs are both allowed at The Taft.* Future residents who own either a cat or a dog need to sign an addendum as part of their lease paperwork. There is a non-refundable $300 cat fee or a non-refundable $500 dog fee.

*Dogs are only allowed on specific floors - please contact the Taft Management Office for specific information.

What if I am military?

Per our lease, if you receive permanent change of station orders or temporary duty orders for a period in excess of 3 months, then you are required to provide us with proof of your assignment as well as a 30-day written notice, and rent for those 30 days. As with any other move-out, you are responsible for the cost of repairing damage to the premises caused by an act or omission of yours.

Do you allow subletting?

Subletting is allowed. Please contact the Management Office for additional information and specific details.

Do you do short term leases?

We do offer short-term leases, when available. Please contact the Management Office to discuss your specific situation and for up-to-date information.

What happens if I have to transfer for my job?

Per our lease, we require a 60-day move-out notice, including rent for those 60 days, and require a termination fee equal to two month’s rent.

Is parking included?

Parking is not included at The Taft. However, we do work closely with the Crown Street Garage, on the corner of College & Crown Street, owned and operated by the New Haven Parking Authority. Please contact the NHPA directly at 203-946-8936 for monthly rates.

When are late charges assessed for rent?

Rent is due on or before the 1st of any month. Late fees are assessed as of close of business on the 10th of the month.

Can I pay for rent on my credit card?

Yes, you can. If you are a current resident, you may be able to pay your rent online via credit card, debit card, or an ACH payment. Additionally you can pay by check or money order directly to the Taft Management Office. Contact the Taft Management Office for detailed instructions.

When can I expect to receive my security deposit refund?

The security deposit will be refunded minus any charges within 30 days from the end of the lease.

Can my security deposit be used as my last month’s rent?

No. The security deposit cannot be used towards last month’s rent. Your security deposit is used for any property damage that you may incur. The remaining balance will be refunded to you.

What do you require for a security deposit?

Based on our Qualification Standards, the amount of the security deposit will either be the equivalent of one or two months rent, based upon income and credit.

Is there an application fee?

There is a $50 one-time non-refundable application fee per applicant ($75 for Waiting List). Additionally, there is a $200 common area fee. There are no additional fees required for co-signer applications. Note: If a resident requires a cosigner, a 2-month security deposit will be required. CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

What services do you offer residents?

There are numerous services The Taft has to offer, including: 24-hour concierge service, 24-hour emergency maintenance, on-site management, Wi-Fi in the Grand Lobby & Recreation Center, package acceptance, dry-cleaning pick-up/drop-off on premises, use of a 24-hour Recreation Center that includes laundry, fitness, and a lounge area, great customer service, fax and photocopying services and stamps for sale in the office. Feel free to borrow our vacuum, hand trucks, and a selection of tools when you leave your photo ID in exchange. We also publish a monthly newsletter and regularly host resident events in the lobby.
